Anonymous asked: What is 50 shades of grey about? And what's so bad about it?

50 Shades of Grey was originally fanfiction based on the Twilight series, which was then published as a novel (along with 2 subsequent books). It sold over 100 million copies around the world and topped best-seller lists everywhere. It’s about to be adapted into a film, set to come out early next year.

It follows a college student named Ana Steele, who enters a relationship with a man named Christian Grey and is then introduced to a bastardised and abusive parody of BDSM culture.

While the book is paraded as erotica, the relationship between Ana and Christian is far from healthy. The core mantra of the BDSM community is “safe, sane and consensual”, and 50 Shades is anything but. None of the rules of BDSM practices (which are put in place to protect those involved) are actually upheld. Christian is controlling, manipulative, abusive, takes complete advantage of Ana, ignores safe-words, ignores consent, keeps her uneducated about the sexual practices they’re taking part in, and a multitude of other terrible things. Their relationship is completely sickening and unhealthy.

Basically, “the book is a glaring glamorisation of violence against women,” as Amy Bonomi so perfectly put it.

It’s terrible enough that a book like this has been absorbed by people worldwide. Now, we have a film that is expected to be a huge box-office success, and will likely convince countless more young women that it’s okay not to have any autonomy in a relationship, that a man is allowed to control them entirely. It will also show many young men that women are theirs to play with and dominate, thus contributing to antiquated patriarchal values and rape culture.

REBLOG FOREVER.

Boycott this fucking movie, for the love of god. These kinds of ideas are dangerous and set us back as a society

Strange concept but when you get your hair professionally bleached and dyed for 10 years I’m pretty sure you know what your doing- although that statement may use common sense, which these days is less then common. I posted a transition photo because I thought my followers would enjoy seeing my hair a different color, it was half wet and naturally curly in the photo- well because surprise I’m in human form too! The amount of horrific, rude and uncalled for comments about how fried and shitty as hell my hair is blew my mind. Any excuse to throw a stab at someone… That your willingly following- jokes on you. I’m an adult, I am aware of what I do for a living and that shitty people come with the territory. I block tons of people on a daily basis without a second thought, but let’s get real this isn’t about something as stupid as the texture of my hair. This is about having absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE for bullying of any kind. Online or in real life (although that actually takes a bit of courage that I’m betting 99% of you don’t have hiding behind your little phone screens attempting to feel better about your self by putting others down) Not everyone is strong enough to stand up and put these sad individuals in their place (including me as a teen) so I feel the need to be that voice today for ANYONE who is being picked on. Nothing screams sad, weak, insecure, self loathing and miserable like picking on other people. If your going to act like a little child you should be treated like one and have your social media taken. Your punishment should be having to communicate and live in the real work for few days without hiding behind your security screens. My world and anything that bleeds into it is a absolutely ZERO TOLERANCE ZONE on bullying wither it’s directed at me, my followers or a man on the street. I truly hope people can get the help they are so desperately crying out for, not only for themselves but for the sake of our world. Until next time, if you have nothing nice to say… Start trying to better yourself.
